Which OS should my smart phone / tablet have to use QBiC Air App?

The supported OS is as follows.

What is "QBiC Air"?

"QBiC Air" is an application for smart phones / tablets that allows you to enjoy QBiC's live streaming movie and oprate the camera remotely on your monitor (device).  You need to install the App to your monitor and connect the camera and your monitor via WiFi in order to play.

Download the App from APP store (for iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch) or Google Play (for Android devices).
Search "QBiC Air" and download. 


What is “QBiC Setup Tool”?

"QBiC Setup Tool" is an application which is designed for the camera to configure a variety of settings. Although some settings cannot be configured by the camera and/or QBiC Air, it allows you to check and change all the settings.The application needs to be installed to your computer and also camera and your computer need to be connected via USB cable to use.
Also, in case you want to connect the camera  and the Android device with infrastructure mode for the first time, you need to use the application to set up.

Can my camera and Android device communicate with the ad-hoc mode?

No, the ad-hoc communication mode is not available for Android devices. Use router and communciate with the infrastructure mode.


What is the difference between infrastructure communication and ad-hoc communication?

The infrastructure communication is the connection which the camera is connected via router.
You need to prepare a router to use this communication mode.

The ad-hoc communication mode is a "peer-to-peer" communication between the camera and the monitor.


What do I need to prepare to use WiFi function?

You need the following:
-The camera
-iOS device (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch) or Android device
-"QBiC Air" App*
-Wireless Router (Should have no private separator or can disable the settings)
*Download QBiC Air App from APP store (for iOS device) or Google Play (for Android device).
**For infrastructure communication mode. If your monitor has Android OS, you must prepare a router and the computer with QBiC Setup Tool pre-installed. The computer is only needed to use for the first time to connect.



What can I do by connecting my camera to smart phones or tablets?

The live-streaming video is displayed on smart phones and tablets.
You can remotely operate recording or other settings on the monitor.


What is “live-streaming video” or “live-viewing”?

You can watch the camera's live data on smart phones or tablets. "Live-streaming video" is a name of such data and "live-viewing" is a name of such function.



How can I update QBiC Setup Tool?

You need to have a camera and USB cable (included in the package) to update the QBiC Setup Tool.  Connect your computer to the internet before starting.

<Appliation software upgrade procedure>
1. Prepare the camera and computer with the QBiC Setup Tool pre-installed. Connect the camera to your computer using the cable. Be sure to power off the camera before connecting.
2. Power on the camera.
3. Open the QBiC Setup Tool and go to help settings.  Click "Show the license" for the first time. The description of license about the QBiC Setup Tool and the camera is shown on the web browser. Be sure to read before going to the next step.
4. Click [Upgrade QBiC Setup Tool] . Updating automatically starts.


Am I able to update my camera firmware by myself?

Yes, you can update the firmware by using the QBiC Setup Tool and USB cable (included in the package). Your computer needs to be connected to internet before starting.

<Firmware upgrade procedure>
1.  Prepare the camera and computer with the QBiC Setup Tool pre-installed. Use the USB cable and connect the camera and your computer using the cable. Be sure to power off the camera before connecting.
2.  Power on the camera.
3.  Open the QBiC Setup Tool and go to help settings.  Click "Show the license" for the first time. The description of license regarding the QBiC Setup Tool and also the camera is shown on the web browser. Be sure to read before going to the next step.
4.  Click [Upgrade the QBiC] . Updating automatically starts.


I want to set the clock in the camera.

In case of using the monitor, the clock is automatically set every time you open the QBiC Air App and connect it to the camera. The time synchronize with the monitor.
Also the clock can synchronize with GPS by configuring with QBiC Setup Tool.

If you do not use the monitor, use QBiC Setup Tool and synchronize clock with your computer, or enable GPS assist setting and synchronize clock with GPS.

<How to set the clock with QBiC Setup Tool>
1.  Use the USB cable (included in the package) and connect the camera and your computer with QBiC Setup Tool is pre-installed.
2.  Power on the camera.
3.  Open the QBiC Setup Tool.
4.  Go to [Basic Settings] and click [QBiC date/time setting].
5.  A dialog appears. Set the date/time. Click [OK].




My iPad does not find QBiC Air App. I cannot download it.

QBiC Air may not be found in App Store's search result.  In that case, implement one of the following workaround and download QBiC Air App in your device.

[Method 1]
Input "ELMO" in App Store to search. If "QBiC Air" is found, tap it and dowload "QBiC Air" application. If it is not found, repeat searching until "QBiC Air" is found.

[Method 2]
Connect iPad and your computer and then open iTuens. Search [QBiC Air] in iTues.
Pay attention to the synchronization of the device and any other operations followed by connecting your device to iTunes.ELMO shall not be held responsible for any trouble caused by the operations you take.


QBiC and QBiC Air App do not communicate.

Refer to "QBiC Air" in the QBiC instruction manual and check the settings.
There is a youtube movie available if you use iOS monitor and try to connect it with Ad-Hoc mode.  


My camera does not receive GPS signal (The power LED remains green.)

Depending on the location and the situation, the camera may not be able to receive GPS signal.  Change the location to a place where there are not many buildings and other obstacles and retry. Refer to "GPS" in the QBiC instruction manual for the restriction of GPS.


There is vignetting (an unintended darkening of the image corners) in the recorded image.

This is due to the specification of the lens and not a malfunction.


When recording starts, live-streaming video stops and a message appears on the monitor.

When the image mode is set to full HD and recording starts,  the live-streaming stops. 
At the time the image you see on the monitor is the last shot from the camera. After that, you see a message.
The live-streaming video starts again after recording is finished.
When you first start to record the image and then open the APP (the camera is communicated to the monitor at the time), the live-streaming video is not shown. The message only is shown on the monitor.
This restriction applies only when the image mode is set to Full HD. In case the image mode is either HD or VGA, the live-streaming video is shown on the monitor regardless of the recording status.


WiFi Ad-Hoc communciation is not successful. (The live-streaming video does not appear on the monitor)

Check the followings.
*Power off the camera before checking (except #1).

1.  Does the monitor have Android OS?
Ad-Hoc communication is not available for Android OS device.

2.  Is the camera set to Ad-Hoc communication mode?
Check the WiFi LED on the camera. If it is blue, it indicates that the camera is set to Ad-Hoc communication mode. If the LED flahses green or turns OFF,  press [mode selection swith] for over 4 seconds and change the mode to Ad-Hoc. The WiFi LED flashes blue. 

3.  Is the monitor (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch) selecting QBiC'S SSID "qbic-xxxxxxxxxx" on Wi-Fi settings?
The SSID of the camera is indicated on the camera (on the bottom). Check if it is properly selected. See below for the method.
1) Tap [Settings] on the monitor.
2) Tap [Wi-Fi] and change the setting from [OFF] to [ON]. 
3) Tap the camera's SSID on "Choose a Network" list.
4) Confirm that there is a checkmark at the left side of [qbic-xxxxxxxxxx].
5) A password input dialog appears for the first time. Check [AES] or [KEY] on the bottom of the camera and input the 13 letters on the dialog.
  *Passwords are case-sensitive.
  **No error message appears even if you put the wrong passwords.
6) Tap [Connect].

4.  Did you choose "static" when inputting IP address?
You can choose neither DHCP nor BootP.

5.  Did you input proper IP address and subnet mask?
IP address --- 192.168.111.xxx
xxx is any number from 0 to 254, except 10.
Subnet mask-- (fixed)

6.  Is WiFi mark displayed on the monitor?
After you configure 1 - 5, check if  the WiFi mark appears on the upper left on the monitor.

-WiFi mark is not on the monitor.
 →Refer to "5.  Did you input proper IP address and subnet mask?" and check.

-The WiFi mark appears on the monitor but still the live-streaming video does not appear after opening the QBiC Air.
→Refer to "7. All the configurations are correct; however, the communication still fails".

7.  All the configurations are correct; however, the communication still fails.
Re-configure the network settings.
1) On the monitor, go to [Settings] and [Wi-Fi].
2) Tap the right arrow of camera's SSID and go to network settings screen.
3) Tap [Forget this Network].
4) Tap [Wi-Fi] on the top and return to the Wi-Fi settings.
5) Change WiFi from [ON] to [OFF].
6) Tap the camera's SSID.
*Refer to Q&A "WiFi does not work (the live-streaming movie does not appear)".

8.  Remove/insert the battery and reboot.
Power off the camera and remove the battery. Insert it again and power on.

9.  Restore the factory default settings.
There are 2 ways to restore the factory default setting.

<1> Using the QBiC Setup Tool
1) Using the USB cable (included in the package) connect the camera to the computer with the USB Setup Tool pre-installed.
2) Power on the camera.
3) Open the QBiC Setup Tool.
4) Click [Camera settings] →[Initialize the settings].

<2> Using the camera only
1) Power off the camera.
2) Simultaeously press 3 switches listed in the following for 5 seconds.
Power switch /  LED lights switch / Photo capture switch
3) The power LED flashes green and the process starts. A beep sound occurs and the camera automatically reboots with the factory default settings. (The power LED turns green).
Be aware that all the data including the clock will go back to the default settings.
All the data in microSD card remains.


I hear no camera sound on the monitor when the monitor shows live-streaming video.

Set the audio setting of the monitor to ON.

The video streaming automatically stops and the screen freezes when the recording is started.  The monitor retries to start live-streaming then. When it is successful, the monitor shows live-streaming video again but without sound.
When you close the APP while the camera is recording the movie and open again, the live-streaming video appears without sound on the monitor.


My camera picks up the operation noise during the recording.

This is due to the specification of the camera and it is not a malfunction.


The battery charging time is too long.

AC adapter is available as an option and it shortens the battery charging time. Refer to QBiC Website Accessary page.

I cannot take photos and/or record movies.

Please check the following:

1.  Is the battery fully charged?
The battery has to have a certain amount of charging level; otherwise no photo or movie can be taken. Charge fully and try again.

2.  Is WiFi card unlocked?
If the card is locked no photo or movie can be taken. Slide the switch to the end to release the lock.

3.  Does micro SD card have enough amount of free space?
If the free space is not big enough no photo or movie can be taken. Delete unnecessary data or replace the card and try again.

4.  Are WiFi card and micro SD card working properly?
For micro SD card, format it using the APP or QBiC Setup Tool and try again. If it does not help, replace the card and try again.
Use micro SD cards listed on the QBiC website. The cards in the list are verified by ELMO to use. ELMO shall not guarantee if the card you are using are not listed on the website.
The micro SD card needs to be micro SDHC card with class 6 or higher.
WiFi card is exclusive to the camera. Please contact ELMO or your dealer if you want to purchase.

5.  Are the camera and monitor communicating?
When you operate the photo/movie taking remotely using the monitor, the communication may be temporarily pause and the record command may not reach to the camera and it could be a cause of the recording problem. (It depends on the location and environment). Change the location of the monitor, verify the communication, and try again. Or use the hardware switch on the camera.


My camera does not power on.

If the camera does not power on at all or power on the first but power off immediately after all the LEDs flashes, check the following.

1.  Is the battery properly inserted?
If not, the camera does not power on. Check the direction of the battery. Follow the rating label. Slide the battery until you hear a click.

2.  Is the battery fully charged?
If the battery level is low the camera does not power on. The battery level can be checked with power/GPS LED. When the power/GPS LED turns red the battery is fully charged.

3.  Is the camera being used in the cold environment?
When the camera is used in the cold environment, the camera's performance may temporarily decrease. Place the camera to a warm place (such as in the packet) ane leave it for a while. Remove it and try again.

4. Is microSD card in the camera? Properly inserted?
Insert the card properly until you hear a click.

5.  Is WiFi card unlocked?
If WiFi card locked the error occurs.  Slide the switch to the opposite side and release the lock.

6. Is WiFi card inserted properly?
Insert WiFi card to the camera's card slot properly until you hear a click.



How long does my camera record movies?

There are three resolutions, Full HD (1920x1080), HD(1280x720), VGA(640x480), available and you can select from one of them. Each resolution has different recording time and the detail is as follows.

In case of using 32GB microSD card;
Full HD-----Approx. 4 hours
HD----------Approx. 9 hours
VGA--------Approx. 22 hours

If the file size reaches close to 2GB, the recording temporariry stops and new file is created.
